Enrichment and PSCHE Programme

Students at Monk’s Walk have a programme of enrichment which is designed to develop their skills and interests in preparation for university applications, further education and the world of work.

Each Wednesday afternoon students partake in enrichment activities that are co-ordinated by the school.  A range of opportunities are available that provide qualifications as well as experiences required for UCAS or personal development. Examples of these are:

  • Further Maths
  • Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
  • Sport
  • Young Enterprise
  • Community Service such as working in primary schools or charity shops
  • Sports Leaders
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Curriculum Leaders in a range of subjects across the school
  • General Studies

There are a range of other opportunities as well and these can be negotiated with the Head of Sixth.

On Friday morning we also have PSCHE sessions for students to consider issues and develop their thinking skills.  These are led by members of the sixth form team as well as guest speakers.  These sessions also have a focus on study skills to help improve students’ independent learning.

A key focus for PSCHE is UCAS applications, CVs and career.  We look at the application processes run by external companies, personal interviews, provide feedback and guidance on personal statements, and advice on Universities from previous students and institutions.  This rich programme of personal advice and guidance is given to every student.

For students who were unable to gain a C grade in English or Maths, lessons are timetabled and are compulsory for these students so they can achieve these important grades by the end of their sixth form careers.
