Most Able and SEND Support
Most Able Students
At Monk’s Walk School we have an active Most Able Programme. Students are enrolled onto our Most Able register through three main avenues:
- Students who fall into the top 10% of the year groups’ ability range based on external test scores.
- Students who are nominated by three members of staff as being Most Able within their curriculum areas.
- Parental nomination with clear supporting evidence.
The main provision for Most Able students at Monk’s Walk School is through the learning experiences during lessons. To support the learning that goes on in lessons a large number of supporting activities are laid on for our most able students.
SEND Support
At Monk’s Walk we aim to meet the needs of all students and have a whole-school approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We provide effective opportunities for all students by responding to students’ diverse and often complex, learning needs, setting suitable learning challenges, and overcoming barriers to learning.
Monk’s Walk is an inclusive school that believes strongly that all students, regardless of ability, background, or ethnicity, have the right to participate in and enjoy all aspects of school life, including access to a full curriculum and have the opportunity to meet their full potential.
We offer an extensive and well organised programme of support, delivered by enthusiastic and effectively trained staff. A large proportion of the support is classroom based with our learning support assistants working closely with subject teachers to enhance the learning experience of the students. Students are also supported outside of lessons through the highly successful Prep Club, four evenings a week.
The learning support team is based in the Student Support Centre which provides the team with a base from which to work with individuals and small groups of students. As a team we provide advice, guidance and support to students, staff, and parents.
The Student Support Centre is open at all times of the day, supporting students with a wide range of needs.
