The key to helping each student to attain their full potential is to maintain an effective working partnership between home and school. Parents can have a huge impact on their children's progress by working closely with us. We see this process as a three way partnership between teachers, students and parents, exemplified in our Home School Agreement published in students’ Study Planners and signed by all three parties to demonstrate our commitment to working together towards ‘Excellence For All’

Home School Agreement

At Monk’s Walk School students need to to present their work according to the guidelines on the attached document. This is to enable students to present their work more neatly and coherently, enabling them to have an effective learning record from which they can revise easily. Students need to have a basic set of equipment in order to meet the required standard of presentation; a list is included in the parents’ handbook, but includes:

Pens, blue or black ink only to be used to present work

  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Rubber
  • Pencil case

A pocket or small English dictionary would also be useful.

Parent Forum

What is the Parent Forum?

The Parent Forum is a group of parent representatives who meet once a term to discuss school-related issues. It is a non-elected group and therefore can change depending on the topic being discussed.

Regular, open communication and consultation with parents is really important to the school. The Parent Forum provides a valuable way to listen to your ideas and concerns and seek your views, helping to make sure the needs of children and their families are met.

Meetings are led by a member of the school Senior Leadership Team. Meetings are informal and a genuine opportunity for open discussion.

Examples of issues that have been discussed include:

  • Reporting
  • Academic Review Day
  • Parents evenings
  • Parent Handbook
  • School communication

How often does it meet?

The Monk’s Walk School Parent Forum meets once a term and the dates can be found on the school calendar.

Who can get involved?

If you have a child in Year 7-13 you can get involved. Meetings are advertised through Parentmail, the school website and Facebook and Twitter. Alternatively, email the school for more information.

Sharing the information:

Parents are encouraged to share information from Parent Forum with parents of other children in the school. Feedback is also included in school newsletters which are distributed to all parents and published on the school website.

Meetings will start at 6.30pm and will take place in the sixth form centre.  Parents are welcome to attend any or all - please e-mail Tim Albone, Assistant Headteacher, to confirm your attendance.
