KS5 Geography

Back

The KS5 Curriculum

At KS5 students also follow the AQA syllabus which builds on the knowledge and skills that they have learned at GCSE. They will develop a wider understanding of the synoptic links between human and physical geography. Within physical geography, students learn about water & carbon cycles, coastal systems & landscapes and hazards. In human geography, students explore the issues connected to globalisation, how places change over time and the contemporary urban environment. Finally, students will complete a non-examined assessment. This is a 3,000 – 4,000 word investigation that must include data collected in the field. The individual investigation must be based on a question or issue defined and developed by the student relating to any part of the specification content. This is designed to give students the experience of writing a dissertation-style piece of work in preparation for university.
