The KS4 Curriculum
Students at Monk's Walk School are taught to the AQA specification, for both higher and foundation tiers at KS4. The specification is made of six strands; number, algebra, ratio, proportion and rates of change, geometry and measures, probability and statistics.
Every student will receive 7 lessons per fortnight from a specialist Maths teacher. They can also take up support at weekly Maths surgeries and revision sessions in year 11.
Students will learn how to use a scientific calculator efficiently to help aid answering questions as well as methods that are more suitable without a calculator.
Within every topic, we show students how it links to other topics that they have previously learned and focus on problem-solving skills.
Many aspects of the course, such as percentages, scales and compound measures have clear links to 'everyday life' and so students will explore this in their lessons whilst covering these topics.
There are three exams in total at the end of the course covering the full specification.
